Alternatives to Michigan are any top tier Public School
example UVA not the rest of the Big Ten
Wisconsin is an internationally ranked top 25 school. There are specific programs at other Big 10 schools that are world class. YMMV but that is such an ill-informed statement.
Uva sucks at all the difficult majors that's why it's so poorly ranked in global respect rankings .
It doesn't suck. That is as ridiculous as the UVA boosters claiming it is better than every other school. It is a good school, even in STEM, but not very much like Michigan.
UVA is Nowhere NEAR Michigan in terms of engineering or any other STEM fields. No comparison whatsoever. Michigan is much more selective and reputable than UVA, and has a higher percentage of OOS students

What?
It's the school college counseling suggested as a Michigan alternative.

Northwestern isn't too shabby either.
if OP’s DC is borderline for Michigan, you really think Northwestern is a good suggestion? Uh...

Iowa is a great, serious school in a great town.
It has a high acceptance rate, but I think that's because most people don't realize that Iowa City is a lovely place to go to school, not because of any problem with the university.
