Subject: Anyone use those fake shampoo/sunscreen bottles to bring alcohol on a cruise?
Just buy a la carte on the ship, but save the hard boozing for when you get into port.

OP is being ridiculous and dishonest. A la carte is almost always a better deal. I'm guessing the cruise is about a week long and they are pricing the highest level package for 4 adults, 2 of whom don't drink. Only an effing moron would buy that package. A la carte is maybe $10/drink for most mixed drinks. How many is this joker going to have in a day? And assuming a week long cruise, I'm guessing at least 3 port days where they'll be off the ship, leaving only the evening to pound drinks. It's simple math that the package would be foolish.

You all are harsh. I've never been on a cruise, hate the idea of it, trying to suck it up for my in-laws, for whom this will be their last vacation. They've moved into assisted living and are in failing health. This will be their last hurrah, and neither my husband nor I are cruise people and not exactly looking forward to that portion of it. But we're happy to spend the time with them.
From my friends who do cruise they say "oh, everyone sneaks it on." Then I saw this on the neighborhood listserv and thought, well, hell, with such a market for these products, people must really sneak stuff on I guess.
I guess not, based on what I'm hearing here. No, we are not alcoholics, which is why there is no hell way we're paying $2,000+ for alcohol. Yes, that's their policy - this is on Norwegian Cruise lines, and since my in-laws made all of the reservations, we would all be required to purchase. But I'm unapologetic that if I have to endure this cruise, I might as well drink.
It's not "necessary" but it's vacation and a la carte it is. (I do see they allow wine, but that's all they allow you take on board. Not even water.)

FYI, I cruise every year, and my cruise friends all use these. They work fine. About 20 of us travel, and they bring on a lot of liquor. Saves a lot of money.

I know people who have done this. Seems like a pain to me. If I want a drink I’m at the pool or a show — don’t want to be carrying around a shampoo bottle with hidden liquor like a teen. If I buy a drink or two a day, it’s like another $150 on the price of the cruise—not that big a deal, considering.
Almost every line allows you to bring on a certain number of bottles of wine. They also sell wine packages on board so you can get a discount on buying a certain number of bottles.
And every line I’ve looked at requires only adults in the same room to get the drinks package, not the whole reservation.
