What is tacky about announcing your kids decision on what college to attend? I don't see a problem with it at all. Lots of my friends are doing it this year. I sense some of these people whining about it are just envious of some of the acceptances.


You don't see it as tacky, I do. Which is fine. People are different. But OP is complaining about how it's tacky when she did the same thing.

Yes I see friends and relatives all over Facebook posting about where their kids are going to college. I’m happy for them and don’t think it’s a big deal at all.

I don't think it is tacky to post where a student will be going to high school. I have friends who post when their kids get into magnets. I will probably post where my DS is going to high school. No, I am not going to post every single HS acceptance and scholarship awards. I think that is overkill. Heck, his middle school posts this info on their website and other publications. They publish every scholarship award and where the kid decided to attend.

That doesn't mean you have to give in to tacky behavior. There are better ways to let people know without the fireworks and streamers.

OP here. We are a private school family as well. We did not post about DS's high school acceptance. I think college is a different story. It is a major milestone and life changing. The university he will attend is his dream school (not an ivy) and I don't see any issue with sharing that news. I also don't have a problem if someone announces where their kid decides to attend high school, but please spare me each and every acceptance and merit aid offer.
