I almost don’t want to watch the Goldbergs because of how fast the dialogue, situations and everything else in the show is way too fast. It almost gives me anxiety. I quit watching it for a while and gave it another chance. But it didn’t change

It started way back with, Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988 movie). It's been getting increasingly worse ever since. Movies prior to that time have a much different feel.

Unbreakable Kimmy is like this too. But yes, I first remember noticing it with Gilmore Girls but I swear that since then it's become even faster.

On one hand I do appreciate the wit of today's TV show writing, but the frantic, unnatural back and forth is off-putting. It's not only unnatural and therefore unrelatable, but it's also just exhausting at times trying to keep up.

But like so many things now, subtlety has been lost.

It's why I hated Gilmore girls too.

Mrs. Maisel is fast, and I don't catch everything, but it's also more similar to screwball comedies too.

The style of dialogue is based on screwball comedies of the 1930s & 40s. I’m a huge fan of the Thin Man movies, and the speech patterns are very similar.

That said, I have to be in a certain mood to watch this type of dialogue. I like both GG & MMM, but had to turn off MMM last week because the pace was so irritating to me. It's hard to have on in the background--you really have to focus or you miss stuff.

Ha. Are you my DH? He hates Mrs. Maisel (as he hated Gilmore Girls) because of the fast talking.

This is why I have close-captioning turned on at all times now. Otherwise I'd miss a lot of what they're saying.

I'm a NYer, so Six on Blossom and Gilmore Girls were very comfortable for me. I feel like everyone else is speaking as slowly as they do in the South.

i either heard or read it on here that someone uses closed captioning w/VEEP to catch all the jokes. i agree they are super fast!

I do it on all the shows I watch now. Learned the tip from Gretchen Rubin on the happiness project podcast.
