Subject: Capitol Hill to Brookland charters, how's the commute?
My DH commutes from NE Capitol Hill (just west of Rosedale basically) to Children’s Hospital and it’s only ever awful during after-work rush hour (so probably when aftercare would let out)... and, even then, it’s rarely all that bad. (Children’s is essentially 5 minutes farther than Lee/ITS/SSMA.)

There are several Capitol Hill parents who commute to the South Dakota lamb campus. We choose to bring our kids to the school because it’s genuinely wonderful. That said we will reassess when it comes time for Kingsbury. The commute isn’t bad at all from the northern areas of Capitol Hill. Tougher from SE.

You don't live on Capitol Hill. But TR Young seems like a pretty easy commute, same for ITS. Lee Montessori - maybe.
Rosedale is a different neighborhood altogether from Capitol Hill. I agree with the PP that TR Young is one that is appealing and close for OP.
Rosedale is not "a different neighborhood altogether" from Capitol Hill. It borders. We commute from K St. NE to Brookland by car and it is a breeze ( at 9am and 3pm.) I am also regularly near Hechinger Mall and it's a breeze from there also, 12-18 min. May the luck be with you getting into any of these schools.
I think the poster was referring to the fact that when I hear cap hill it could mean SE DC which is much farther than NE DC that borders bladensburg area.

take a longer look at Miner. It's better than you may realize, especially for ECE. If you're IB you'd have a decent shot of getting in and the short commute with a 3 year old has value too.
New poster here. I don't know much about Miner as a school but I've been to the building and there's a gym, a cafeteria/auditorium, a media center/library, and a parking lot - none of which my kids have at their charter which I love for lots of reasons but which is lacking in facilities compared to what I remember from my own suburban elementary school experience.
Our DD is in PK3 at Miner and we’ve been happy. The ECE program is strong. The test scores for 3rd-5th tell you literally nothing about the EXE classes — among other things, the demographics are totally different (0% white v 50% white, e.g.). As PP notes, the facilities are actually really nice. There is a brand new separate ECE playground that opened this year and a $1.3 million renovation planned of the rest of the outdoor space this summer (and its already pretty nice).

Maybe look at TR - Young, Stokes EE, and Lee's second campus (depending on the location, when announced).
