Getting good gas mileage is important to me and the Forester is larger than I would like.

A Forester is too BIG for you!?!?

Is that sarcasm ?

I have absolutely loved our 2011 Prius, now at 150,000 miles with no issues ever, only brake job at 120,000... So when our "other" car recently began failing, we replaced it with a 2018 Prius which I love even more. It gets over 60 mph on the highway (for me) and 55 in town. We are a two-Prius family! Btw We are very safe drivers and I don't understand the Prius driver bashing in this thread.

Also for me it is not about saving $$$, it is about saving fuel. Every gallon of gas puts 20 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere. We all need to do whatever we can to reduce our carbon footprint. With a Prius you get a very reliable car and get a lot more miles per gallon even compared to most hybrids.

Yes! I don’t trust anyone driving a Prius.

Why hybrid? To save a few $$$ on gas which takes about 7 years to recover (remember, hybrids have a $$$ premium when you buy it). Find a well maintained one owner Honda/Toyota around 7yrs old, w/40k miles (which is basically "new" in Honda/Toyota-world)....and in the process get the car for a third of the price of a new one. Leave a lots of extra $$$ for beer and other good things

It used to, but it wasn’t a good car.

Surprisingly for such a good brand@ name.

Good call OP on deciding against the KIA.

The brand is just cheap + it has really low re-sale value too.

I have heard the Kia brand is somehow connected to the Hyundai name so I might not go w/a Hyundai either.

Honda or Toyota would be my pick because they have YEARS of proven reliability behind them.

Good luck w/your car search OP!!

Op here, we did look at the Niro, but we decided against Kia based on reliability issues. My husband's first car was a Kia and the engine caught on fire. This was around 10 years ago and maybe Kia's have improved since then, but the experience really turned us off to them.

Smart. Kia engines are still catching on fire!

Thank you! I actually really like the idea of the Corolla hybrid, but I'm not sure if I want to wait that long. I believe the Honda Insight is very similar to the Civic hybrid.

it looks like it may have been discontinued? You and I had the same thought - I went looking on Google. It's how I found the corolla hybrid info.
