Basically if you feel that so many girls at one high school are becoming "bi" that you are concerned for the guys, look at the resistance of the guys in that high school to dating and the standards of being popular set by the popular queen bees at the school.

I find that the pp who works with lgbtq students is correct when they state that that these students are typically still vastly in the minority.

Yes. When I was in high school most of the guys seemed to care less about dating. If the option had been available to date other girls I might have done it just to have a date!

Really doubt huge numbers of teenage girls.are going lesbian for life. When teenage guys catch up in maturity in college, there will be plenty of girls there to date them.

I can't tell if you're being facetious, but I remember being annoyed by immature HS guys, but no way in hell would I be interested in dating a girl just to have someone to date. Have girls really become this cavalier about dating their own sex?

Not being facetious. I'm in my 50s so this would have been 30+ years ago. I felt so much pressure, from fellow girls, to "date" or be considered undesirable and unpopular that I probably would have "dated" other girls just to feel less lonely and rejected.
Guys were not interested in me at all, even though I was and am hetero / cis and happily married to a guy for decades now. Not attracted to women at all, not bi.

I think people are severely underestimating the effect of peer pressure and loneliness on teenage girls. They are ready to have crushes and seek approval from their female peers and the pressure to fit in is still as huge now for girls as it was then. If you get a queen bee at a school, they can really influence how most of the other girls want to.behave to make sure they aren't rejected by the group. Starts fading away by late teens.

Weird. I work with LGBTQ teens.....if all these sentiments that "it's rare to ID as hetero or cis" nowadays to be trendy are true...... Well that statement sure hasn't made it to the kids I know! There is still a HUGE need for support services for LGBTQ youth, they certainly feel better about being out than prior generations most likely but it's still very, very difficult for so many youth. They certainly don't feel like the majority, and they do feel the weight of hate, just saying.

You know what else has a negative societal impact? LGBTQ people - particularly kids - getting kicked out of their homes and committing suicide at significantly higher rates because they feel unloved and hated by a big chunk of society.

I teach HS and WAY more than 5-10% of girls date other girls. This statistic was true for the past, but times they are a'changing.

5-10% of the population tends to be gay or bi, so 8% checks out. But during high school / college lots of people also experiment for a while. In the old days, or in conservative areas now, they just don't broadcast it to the world or at least their relatives. I think the difference now is that more younger people feel less scared to admit they are trying things out, or come out earlier while at home.

No one, not even a surveyer could figure out how my son identifies. He'd keep it quiet. He wouldn't share this information and default is hetero.

I don't think this is about "conservative area of the country" but about keeping his own counsel. His friends run the range.

This is what Fox News would have people believing, that the "Gay Agenda" is going around converting all young impressionable kids. They can convert straight kids as much as conversion therapy works on LGBTQ kids.

Me thinks the number of LGBTQ youth is the same as it's always been, one can just more freely live it openly now. Thankfully.
