Westwood is nice- younger vibe. My DD lives in Santa Monica and has friends in Westwood - she said they like it there and it is close to the beach as well

Westwood is extremely convenient, and nice and clean. I’d definitely live there, and travel out when I wanted, rather than live where I have to deal with a commute everyday.

Westwood was the place to be in the 70s/80s. Now it just feel like a college town. It's safe and clean by LA standards.

I enjoyed my time in Westwood, but yes, it's very student-y (I was in grad school). If she's working at UCLA, I recommend living along one of the Big Blue Bus lines that goes to campus (in the other direction you can take it straight to the beach!). I also lived close to one of the campus shuttle stops near the Federal building, which was very convenient. She may want to avoid living in the sections with all the undergrads (like the area north of Wilshire, west of Gayley).

Generally speaking, is UCLA and the surrounding area considered liberal or conservative?

Westwood is a nice place but has a student vibe. Nice for a younger person. I think that area is pretty liberal.

Horrible traffic out there. I grew up there but would never return.

Also buses from Westwood / Century City to Santa Monica are very good. Just 15-20 mins to the beach.

Pasadena isn’t very conservative. Maybe a long time ago, but not today.

Liberal. Santa Monica's nickname is "The People's Republic of Santa Monica," LOL

The whole westside is pretty liberal (lots of entertainment folks on the westside bc they can afford it)

More conservative would be Pasadena, South Pasadena, the area around JPL (Jet Propulsion Labs) which is La Canada (with ~ on the "n") and San Marino. Maybe Altadena. Not really close to UCLA, though.
