That's pretty harsh. I'm not the Beatrice poster, but why would you find that sad? Nothing wrong with pointing out that someone well known has been in a situation like OP's. And it doesn't mean that that poster doesn't have friends.

He’s a weak man. How do I know? The whole “I’m it ready for marriage” line he fed you. Too much of a coward, or too unaware of his own feelings, to be honest and tell you he didn’t see himself marrying you.

When someone tells you they’re not ready for marriage, it just means they’re not ready for marriage with you.

Most people would like to get married or eventually will. I’m sure plenty don’t, but I dare say most want this. So if someone tells you this, it’s probably a clue to move on if marriage is your end game.

OP, this is how it works:

Women:
A man is acceptable or unacceptable

Men:
A woman is unacceptable
A woman is acceptable but I would never marry her
I would marry her in a second

Other posters are correct. The guy who dates a woman for a long time, is never going to marry her, dumps him and he winds up married to someone else within a year.

You sound like one of George Clooney's exes.

He probably didn't want to get married at that point. There are many people who didn't want to ever marry or have kids until they met that one person and the relationship made them feel differently.

If a man hasn't at least discussed marriage intentions after a year of dating, he isn't serious.

Wait why? If anything it’s the opposite. You should absolutely tell the girl you don’t want to marry, that you don’t want to marry. Even if you really just mean “marry her.” Otherwise she will think she just needs to keep waiting.
