It probably because parents don’t know them. It is possible the students do though. Maybe parents can encourage students to think of them. I’m sure they’d appreciate it. They are typically called building service workers, not janitors.
I’m a teacher. I bought chocolates for the building service worker who cleans my room. I also gave a huge cheesecake to the entire bldg services staff of three schools (DD’s, mine, and DH’s).
I don’t know any of the cafeteria workers, but we gave chocolates to the front office staff at DH and my schools. The attendance secretary and nurse’s office at DD’s school also got chocolates. All 8 teachers got chocolates and personalized notes.
