I loved my 4 years at MSU, but that was decades ago so not sure how relevant my experience is today. For as disgusted as I am about the Nassar scandal, I think MSU will be fine. There may be a blip in enrollment for a couple of years, but MSU is huge. It has a lot of money coming in through tuition, grants, and the football and basketball programs.

MSU's size appeals to some people (like me) but for others, it can be really overwhelming. The campus is beautiful but sprawling. Winter is no joke. I had to trudge about a mile through a snowstorm on more than 1 occasion to get to my final exams in December (they don't cancel anything in Michigan due to winter weather). But I met people from all over the world there, many of whom became lifelong friends. COL is pretty cheap. Campus is about 2 hours from Lake Michigan to the west and about 1 1/2 hours to Detroit and Ontario to the east. Summer and fall in Michigan are gorgeous. Football and basketball games are a lot of fun.

There are several residential colleges within MSU that are more selective and rigorous than general admission, which may be of interest to your DD depending on what she wants to do. They also tend to have smaller class sizes and provide more of a small college experience within the large university. I was enrolled in one of the residential colleges and loved it. Most of my core classes had about 20 kids. The professors were engaging and very accessible. It was challenging and I really enjoyed the experience. It was a nice change from the huge lecture halls.

As PPs have said, it really comes down to what your DD wants to do and how she feels about the schools in general (size, distance from home, etc).

This. Both are great schools but MSU has the Hospitality Management degree, which is #1 (Cornell says #2) in the world. I think MSU is prettier but Delaware definitely wins for being easy to get to. Your daughter can't go wrong, OP, with those two options. What did she think when she did the tours?
