I think most estimates put the start date as 1981, so the oldest millenials could be even older, approaching 38! As a 34 year old millenial, I like the X-ennial/Oregon Trail generation carve out and find it more fitting, but as is, millennials are not necessarily all that young. I'm the PP who prefers gift cards to buy myself an actual gift over cash. Having a good job and being an older millenial probably influences that. If I were 23 I might have a different opinion.

Cash but not a bunch of $20 bills, use larger bills if your giving more than $40. It’s weird to have to count out a bunch of twenties.
