You get one free book per month via the monthly credit with Audible. You can always purchase more books if you want. They are not on loan, you own the books. You can also pay a little more per month and get 2 or 3 free book credits per month. A lot of books are free or only a couple dollars. I've downloaded a lot of free books from Audible and only use my credits to buy books that are pricey.

Kindle also has a lot of books that have narration available now for a couple dollars more than just the written book.

That's why I decided not to subscribe to audible, and to use audiobooks through the public library instead--either CD or downloaded. Audible is very expensive.

If she likes non fiction, Great Courses is having a sale on their streamable content right now, which also includes streamable audio.

I also listen to downloadable.podcasts, which tend to be free.

You should also introduce your mother to the wonderful world of podcasts. Lots of free quality content out there.
