Several months ago I was sick and took advil several times a day for a week and developed gastritis. Terrible nausea that lasted on and on. I'm grateful it wasn't a full blown ulcer. I suspect some of us are just more sensitive than others but I've learned my lesson. The thing about advil is that you are fine until you aren't and its easy to think since you've had no problem in the past that you never will. Just be careful. The warnings are for real.

I have chronic arthritis and have taken 2 Advil a day for months at a time, no problem. Just don't take it on an empty stomach or just before you lay down to sleep.

My mother has ended up in the hospital twice!! for doing this. Her leg hurts so she self-medicates. Once she burned a hole in her esophagus and was slowly bleeding out. She passed out at my brother's house and ended up at a hospital in his town, not hers. I can't remember the story the other time (I think an internal bleed in the gut somewhere) but it was due to the same damn thing…addicted to Advil.

that being said, doing just a little bit too much or too long of Tylenol is really dangerous for messing up the liver, so don't start looking at Tylenol for your answer.

OP, whatever hurts you, go get a doctor to get you on the right stuff and dosage, or help fix what's hurting you.

My mom takes prescription levels of ibuprofen and has to get regular blood work done because of it. I dot recall what exactly they're checking , but definitely talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

This was actually useful to me today (especially the poster that called Walgreens). Seeing how this is the first time I have come to this site and did so through a google search reference, it's a win-win for this website and myself.

You likely need a root canal. Dentists usually take bite wing x-rays which only show decay in the surface. He/she probably treated the surface and you likely have an infection that needs to be treated. It's no biggie (especially if you have dental insurance!) but I would have the dentist recommend an endodonist on your plan. I just had a terrible tooth ache and it turned out I needed a root canal. It was actually very painless (he numbed me a little) and only took about 30 minutes. Then I got a crown. No more pain!!!

Advil is great for treating symptoms but for chronic pain that is not going away you need to treat the underlying cause.

Tylenol causes liver damage when taken too long, or in high doses.

Advil is a much safer drug. I don't know what 3x a day means (need to know the dosage) but lots of doctors will recommend long-term ibuprofin use. In fact, the longer you use it, the better certain problems get. Its anti-inflammatory effect means that certain muscular problems will heal better/stronger with regular use.

Idiot. Advil is also an NSAID.

OP. You should make sure you are under the care of a doctor if taking the advil that long. If you are worried strictly about pain relief, then switch back and forth between advil and tylenol AFTER you call the doctor about why you have the pain. And, be sure to examine your poop for blood.

I just called the Pharamacy, to reply to this post no lie. If your taking within the limits on the back of the bottle you will be fine. The reason they say dont exceed 10 days is because they want you to consult a doctor to make sure their isnt a UNDERLYING PROBLEM of why your experiancing your pain. 9 times out of 10 there is something wrong and youll need to be put on a certain medicine to fix or PREVENT the pain your experiancing. But it IS totally fine to take small amounths , Example 200mg - 800mg a day everyday. Last spring, I had body aches and pains kind of like I was getting the flu. But never got the fever w/ it. I took Tylenol and aspirin and Motrin many times per day for more than a week. My dr thought I might have Lyme's and she ran some tests. No Lyme's but she said to stop the pain relievers since my liver function test looked pretty bad. I would get to the dentist ASAP.
