This is so fake. Who would be embarrassed about a $50k balance. FDIC limits are $250k per account, I assume most people keep about that much in checking, just for spare change and paying monthly bills. Why would the teacher care that you only had $50k.

I’m one of those and no I don’t. My money is working all the time, I draw down as needed.

I'm a teacher and have about $150 in my checking account until my next pay day on 12/14. I think posters are a bit out of touch if they think most people have that kind of money sitting around in a checking account. Isn't the average annual salary in the U.S. just above that amount?

Agreed. That’s a lot of money to have to fight to get back if someone hacks your account.

Hopefully that’s what she thinks thanks. I only took the receipt because I had deposited checks from the ATM. I threw the receipt in my purse and was careless yes.

+1 I'm a teacher, and I have 65k in my checking account. It isn't ideal, and I won't go into the reasons, but if I were wealthy, it wouldn't be this way.

So no, I wouldn't think anything of your statement, OP, except MAYBE that you aren't independently wealthy after all (if I had originally thought this).

Who even goes to bank nowadays or even gets a receipt? did you add $10k in case $40k wasn't enough?

I keep $50k in my checking only to pay my bills, too.

I think it’s not a rich people thing because people who do that want to have significant cash on hand in case there’s a big expense etc. they’re not as liquid overall. Obviously they’re not hurting, they’re just not rich enough to have that money locked away untouchable elsewhere.
