As you may know, Wednesday, December 5, 2018 has been designated as a National Day of Mourning honoring George H.W. Bush, the 41st president. While many federal and state agencies will be closed, Montgomery County Public Schools will be open on time.

Not the day of mourning itself, which is rather nice, but trying to restrict what people can or can’t do whilst “mourning”(such as attend school) does seem a bit “strong man government” to me. Shall we hang crepe and don armbands? When can we move into our dove gray handmaid’s robes?

What happens if MoCo closes? We've already used 1 of the 2 snow days so if they close Wednesday, does that mean any more snow days shrink the already shrunk Spring Break?

It is a National Day of Mourning, not a State or Local Day of Mourning. Therefore, it's a case by case basis. It depends on the local leaders; with this being the Nation's Capital, it would make since to close the schools! Mayor Bowser does not get it right, all the time.

Update, it was closed for Reagan (I thought his death was more recent than it was)

St. Albans, NCS and Beauvoir will close on Wednesday but they are all on the National Cathedral grounds and the logistics of pickup/drop off in the middle of the ceremony would be complex.
