I think anyone is welcome. We don't discriminate. You will have to sit through interpreters and such but you will be welcomed.

Yes, you can. But you need to become a community organizer and advocate for your community.

I know the weekend language schools have their own meetings. The French school had a seminar this weekend about applying to college.
Let me know which European country you are particularly interested in and I can post more info.

No meetings in Korean, no meetings in Russian, no meetings in Hindi, no meetings in French.

This isn’t true. I live in the Wootton cluster and we have a decent sized ESOL population. Chinese, Korean, and Farsi mostly. Some Russian. There are translators available at certain school meetings.

There are translators available. There's even a place on the form where you can indicate the specific language.

+1 If you look at the overall calendar of MCPS events, you'll not only see events offered in other non-English languages, but also places where one can request translation if it is not offered.

I'm going to guess that the reason they have these meetings for x parents is so that they don't feel they are in the minority, and so they feel more comfortable speaking up. Maybe they feel embarrassed to speak up because of their accents or what not. It can be quite intimidating for a native English speaker to speak up, let alone someone who is not as comfortable with the language.

To OP, I'm Asian American, and I would not care if you showed up. However, if too many non Asian/Hispanic parents show up, then it would defeat the point of this particular meeting.

" Go ahead. People don't really care that much about other people.

I used to go to events in which I was the only non-latinx. Occasionally people would ask me what my ethnic background was ("are you... Cuban?") and I would explain I was a white midwesterner. They were usually a bit amused and very welcoming. People just don't care."

Not only would they not care, I think they (both parents and organizers) would be happy if you brought everyone you know with you.

The greater the attendance, the more likely these types of meeting will happen in the future.

The more meetings the more engagement. The more engagement the more learning and appropriate use of services.
