I use Amazon online to figure out what books I want to reserve at the library. I only buy books if DCPL is really slow to get the book in stock or if there's a huge waiting list.

I somehow wind up with a ton of books no matter where I am. 
The other day, I placed an order for one book on Amazon, immediately cancelled it when I remembered there’s a new indie bookstore in my town, and messaged them to see if they had it in stock. (If they hadn’t, I would have ordered from them.)
When I went to pick it up the next day, I also walked out with two other books. Ah well, it’s a good addiction to have.

the amazon bookstore sucks. low inventory. if I'm going to go through amazon, I'd rather go online.
Barnes & Noble has a great inventory, although its children section is limited.
I like independent bookstores, but, of course they are harder to find and none in my immediate area.

I'm the opposite. I always leave the library with a stack of books. It doesn't matter if I was in there for five minutes or two hours. I can't help it.
