Stupid comment.

Very stupid comment.

My DDs know two Maeves and it’s one of the more popular Irish names for girls in the US. Bronagh is new to me but it’s hardly “ugly” (DCUM generally hates any name that isn’t in the vein Caroline or Emily) but the pronunciation is easy to guess at.

I knew a lovely Maeve. Shiny black fur, sweet personality, loved a walk around the neighborhood. I live in NY and she's the only Maeve I've ever known.

Love Maeve! My niece in NY is named Maeve. Lots of Irish names up there.

Plus unless you are naming her after the Saint (Bronach) the name means sad or sarrowful. Ick.

I think Maeve is sweet. I've never known a Bronagh, and my first thought is that it's a name that will be ruined when other people try to spell it or pronounce it.

Mairead is a different name. Pretty but I think it is Scottish.

Yes it is a different name and Irish (for Margaret) and easy for Americans to say.

Maighread is the Scottish form. Not good for the Yanks.

I actually love this name! You tell someone once how to pronounce it and they get it. Maeve or Meadbh Flannigan is a great name!

We're on the same page. Where are these people coming up with these hideous names?????????

OP already said they are Irish.
