The council members THINK they have a lot of power AND influence but they really don't.
Plus moving a magnet program , technically wouldn't even require the exhaustive public vetting that boundary changes require. MCPS and the BOE can open/close or move these whenever they want without the Council or anyone else weighing in. Far easier.

FWIW Blair was a huge reason my kid chose the magnet program over RMIB and over our W school. Kid made the right choice and loves the magnet and the school as a whole. It is a big school but that also means lots of clubs and lots of opportunities to find friends outside of the Magnet. As many DCC posters have noted there are tons of high achieving neighborhood kids zoned for Blair and this makes the non Magnet classes top notch. Kennedy or Springbrook would not be as appealing.

Just guessing but that is probably why Kennedy would be the first choice. If it was Springbrook it could be open to the DCC. MCPS makes up the rules on which clusters can apply.

I guess they could move the middle school magnet if they move the high school magnet or just bus kids north instead of bussing kids south. Is there a MS in the Kennedy cluster that is projected to be under capacity or just near capacity?
