Don't include college savings.

We got a financial adviser when we found out we had a defunct pension account. If we were to liquidate it more than half would have gone to taxes. The company had a great incentive to keep it. Move it over to a private investment account and they would give an extra $25k to help it grow. FREE MONEY.

Husband did it and now it has grown unbelievably in the last 3 years. Husband then opened an IRA for me. Our adviser also gives us free advice on our other big retirement account. A win win all around.

You don't have to be wealthy to have a financial adviser.

We started using a fee-only financial adviser around $1M in net worth, and it has been one of the best things for our peace of mind and overall financial comfort.

If someone likes getting into the weeds on investment details, more power to them. But we don't, and we like having the help and access to an adviser.

$10mln, of which about $1mln is liquid (a lot of the $10mln is the value of a business we own). We have an advisor. We just don't have time to deal with rebalancing portfolios, tax loss harvesting, etc.

We also don't mow our own lawn, wash our cars, or clean the house.
