I get not making a big public deal about it but they could have removed them. They knew it was wrong because they kept it secret. They knew it was wrong because they moved them. It was always wrong but it was also considered wrong to talk about sex and that kind of scandalous thing. I think that is what he is saying. The urge to sweep it under the rug 20+ years ago shouldn't be condemned now by modern people.

Going forward, or even dealing with cases in the last 10 years, of course standards are different.

Just another powerful white man making excuses for abuse and abuse cover up. There is only one right thing to say (and do). "We were horrible people who committed or covered up the most horrific crimes known to man. We will turn anyone who committed such crimes or covered them up into the police. We will fire and publicly shame anyone who committed or covered up such crimes. We will pay enormous amounts of money in restitution the victims even at the risk of the church going bankrupt and having to shut down". Period. That is the ONLY morally right thing to do.

But then, as now, slavery was morally wrong - something that many people did realize at the time . A church should know the difference between morality and social acceptability.

Hwhat?! True about slavery, and true that the owner could do anything to slaves because they owned them. That INCLUDEs sexual abuse of any of them, torturing and killing. And it was socially acceptable.

Questioning the integrity of people who support an organization that has for decades facilitated the abuse of children doesn't really qualify as bigotry. Abuse of children isn't really a difference of opinion unless you are unwell.
