What do you suggest as an alternative?
One elementary school that I went to, back during the Cretaceous period, had a "playground" that consisted of fenced-in asphalt, and when it was too rainy for everyone to go outside and have fights in the "playground", we all sat in the cafeteria until it was time to go back to class.

Then 4th and 5th graders carry around all their stuff because they change classrooms for AM and PM. But there are cubbies in the classrooms.
There are lockers in the hallway for grades 1, 2,3, 4, 5 at our school. Speak for yourself.

Obviously I’m speaking for myself. Isn’t that implied?
We have had kids at 2 elementary schools and we have never had lockers. Amazingly, MCPS is a huge County and there are differences amongst the schools.

Huh? Yes lockers in Elementary School. My child's in 4th, and has had lockers/cubbies every single year.
Our ES does not have lockers. All grades have cubbies. The other ES down the street does have lockers but only for some grades. So, it varies.

Yes, it's a matter of supervision. Teachers usually use recess time to prepare, but on rain days, they have to pitch in, so classes are combined so they can rotate and not lose time every class day.
My kids are well past elementary, but I think it would be nice to allow kids who want to quietly read a book a pass to the library to at least get the numbers down a bit.

At our school they actively seek parents to help supervise recess but not many volunteer because it’s smack in the middle of the day and kind of impossible to do if you’re working. Also, while lots of parents have done the online training very few have been fingerprinted, which I think you would need to do in order to be the only adult in a room with children. So you can help supervise but it won’t let them split the classes for indoor recess.
I don’t think a lot of parents know they can. I’m sure at least in our school, people would be willing to get fingerprinted.

I do lunchroom supervision or office hours each day. I do not "have off" every day...
