I feel like if you're seeking a style that's basic, kind of drapey/not form-fitting, and suitable for work, you might go try on a bunch of stuff at Uniqlo before spending a lot at JJill or Eileen Fisher.

I find Uniqlo to be INCREDIBLY hit-or-miss and I can't order online--there's no telling what will look good. But I do have some excellent basic blouses and straight-legged pants that I got in the last 6 months to have a similar vibe to what the OP seems to want.

Honest question, from someone who is too short to wear any of these things: In terms of flatteringness, is there a difference between J Jill and Eileen Fisher? How about these brands and Chicos?

And BTW, the PP didn’t say the OP is “thin.” She made a relative comment— “you’re too thin” to wear J Jill. “Too thin” is a statement of relativity—she’s not as skinny as you, perhaps, esteemed Weight Patrol Officer, but 5’6 150 is also maybe not as heavy as the body type for which JJill seems designed. Reading comprehension is an incredible gift that we can all use to our benefit.

Their stuff is sized so large and often the cuts are unflattering. I'd consider going to petite sizing, especially for skirts, and you're probably a small and sometimes even an extra small there. '

That said, you can get some well made basics often at good prices. It's just hit or miss. I wouldn't dress all in Jjill, but picking a choosing a few things could work out really well for you!

Yeah I wouldn't characterize myself as thin. Average, teetering on the edge of overweight is a better characteristic of my body. I'm forever working on losing those last 10 lbs and, yes, I probably have "given up" on that mission. For now I'm happy as long as I don't go over 150. I definitely have problem areas that makes me choose a flowy top over a tucked in button down!

I made that original comment. I am 54. 5'9" and overweight, but even I do not shop at J Jill!

The items in the 2nd link will age the wearer instantly, the waistline is at an unflattering length. Why not try other brands like COS or Massimo Dutti?

I don't think my body type is built for COS or Massimo Dutti-- I'm a 34 D and apple shaped.

I like J Jill! I like the colors and the fabrics, and how they have separates in complementary colors so you can build outfits that work together. Yes they are often flowy and loose around the middle -- it all depends on your body type and sense of style as to whether that's a good thing. I am nearly 50, a bit overweight, and the J Jill cuts of clothing work well for me. (this may not be the endorsement of J Jill you are looking for )Form fitting clothing, while stylish, is not flattering on me at my current weight.
