Nice one .. I am so not telling this one to my boys. They're 8 & 10 and potty humor still hasn't lost it's amusement value with them. They found that Alexa has a song about poop that of course they love playing and they keep trying to trick people into saying "under where / underwear".

We just tell them no potty language at the dinner table and otherwise just ignore it.

Some of you are such sour-pusses! Do you never do anything silly and “inappropriate?” My son is past this phase, but he would think it was hilarious if I tried to top his talk and we would have the best laughs/moments.

Not everything has to be a “teachable moment.”

Definitely don't react and just keep repeating "we don't use potty words unless we're in the potty" (and it's related to an actual issue).

That joke is excellent though. I really want to tell it to my 9 year old, but I know I would regret it. Just like every time they say "guess what?" to me, I really want to say "chicken butt," but I really know I would regret that.


Our preschool had a children's book called "Chicken Butt," so my kid would say it, and if I protested, would say, "But it's the name of a book, Mommy!" I was like, fine, you win that one.

We tell our DS we don't like it, and he can't say it with us. We tell him that if he wants to joke and laugh about it with his friends, fine, but not with us.

Not just boys, all kids do this! I remember doing it myself as a kid. It's pretty universal. Don't make a big deal of it. Sometimes I will join in and that automatically makes it not cool anymore. The "know your audience" poster has the right idea setting some limits so that they don't get in trouble doing it at inappropriate times.
