On the way home, she told me she was the "most nervous" kid and that she did not play anything because she was feeling nervous and she did not eat her snack, drink her water, nor use the bathroom with the other kids. She did not touch a single toy or activity (she told me this and the teacher confirmed it). She is 3.5 and she's met her teacher a few times before and we've had playdates with her classmates. She usually warms up but one of us is usually there with her - I was hoping she would warm up after a few minutes but she did not. Is this normal? I feel so sad for her.
So your 3.5 year old used the word “nervous”and said all of this to you in the car ride? Wow! Her communication ability is amazing? What do you expect from a child that has never attended preschool and is only going for three hours? You sound like that clinger mom as well which makes it that much worse. Next time, let her know in the morning about what the expectations are and drop her off quickly. She is going to cry no matter what. I would also recommend a longer period of time. She will be four soon and needs to know what a full day is like before Kindergarten.

Sounds normal and it's quite common. It's part of the reason preschools start off with half day (1.5hr) sessions at first to help ease into the preschool transition. Did you go to the open house/meet & greet?
Give it some time. It is part of a new routine for everyone.
