When I had my V, a few decades ago, the doc didn't just snip the vas deferens. He took removed about 1/4" piece, then burned both ends, then he may have clipped the ends too. I'm not sure. No way those were joining again.

So yeah, if my wife got pregnant after that, I'd be VERY suspicious and rightly so.

The smart thing for you to do would be to say, "I insist on a paternity test just to set your mind at ease."

If you know it's his, then you should not have a problem with this.

DH has a vasectomy and if I ended up pregnant I would expect him to question me. Looking at general statistics the odds of the vasectomy failing are smaller than the odds that the spouse had an affair.

I’ve heard of the post vasectomy surprise and the vasectomy reversal for the 2nd wife. From the outside it seems like a lot of work to go thru the emotional decision and cost to take permanent measures to say we are done having kids only to change your mind with that same partner.

Anyone have a baby post vasectomy not by accident? I really regret my husband having one, but after bad pregnancies I thought I was done. Now I want one more chance. Does this have to be done via IVF?

DH had a vasectomy after DC #3. 15 months later, I was shocked to find myself pregnant with DC #4. Went back to the urologist quite upset--his reply: "It happens sometimes."
When I went into to deliver nurses, residents, docs all came by snickering--"Oh you're the post vasectomy baby!" DC #4 is a delightful person, truly a bonus baby.

My DH’s doctor suggested regular checks to make sure things haven’t changed. Three years and so far, so good. They sell kits on Amazon now days.

Why? Any man would want the test. The chances of a V failing are so incredibly small it would put doubt in any man's mind. She should have been glad to prove it to him and erase all doubt.

No. They bring you both in for counseling and tell you it's permanent, make sure you both are okay with that, but they do warn you an incredibly small micropercentage do fail or repair themselves so they are covered.

When I discovered I had a positive pregnancy test 3.5 years after my husband's vasectomy at first I was like wow, this doctor is a weasel who screwed us. But when I got confirmation from the doctor it really was a pregnancy I just rolled with it. Whatcha gonna do? Be mad at a doctor and an innocent baby forever? It ended up being the best "bad" thing that ever happened to me. Can't imagine life without this kid.

NP here and I feel the same as OP. We are 38. Our kids are 10 and 7. We will not act on my feeling. But I regret agreeing to the vasectomy years ago. DH is still content with 2.

in Most states, wrongful birth cases only allow damages for the difference between a healthy and unhealthy child. Plus, there is usually an informed consent and waiver explain the possibility of failure

A part of my heart secretly wishes my husband’s vasectomy would spontaneously fail. And I wouldn’t freak if he wanted a paternity test. I mean, logically I couldn’t really blame him. Though presumably a fertility test on his end could also work.
