But on another note: Osaka barely claims her Haitian roots
I don't get why she isn't described as Japanese-Haitian instead of as only Japanese. She was born in Japan, but has lived in the US since she was three.
Are the parents together? I read that she has her mother's surname and not her father's because they felt she would be treated more fairly during the time when she lived in Japan.

I didn't see this interaction, but the linked report tells a disappointing story about her reaction today.
Still, sort of a strong reaction on your part, OP to decide you don't like her any more because she's had one bad day.
Today was not her only “bad day.”

Naomi played amazing and deserved to win. Congratulations champ!!!

No... she’s not a bully? Bully to who?
Crying? As if being called out for not cheating isn’t a reason to express emotion.
Bully or crying ... pick a side
Like she said “men have done way worse”

She embraces both her Japanese and Haitian roots. And yes the Haitian part makes her part African, you know the slave trade and all that...

I continue to have great respect for Serena, but GO JAPAN!!!
Osaka played like a true master of the game.
(And both are also African, so yeah!)
