It’s okay. There are so many jobs in Virginia that we can employ even your sort. We even know how to deal with Maryland drivers and DC scooter users.

For all of you who live in VA:

1........Where did you move from (NY, California, Boston)?

Baltimore Md, though originally a New Yorker

2.......Why did you decide to move from there? (Lack of jobs, high taxes, poor schools)?

I needed a new job, and the Baltimore market was thin in my specialty.

3.........Why did you move to the DC area?

I got a job I wanted

4..........Why did you pick Northern VA to live in instead of MD or DC?

The job was in NoVa, and I wanted a short commute. I have since changed jobs again and work in DC, but still live in Va - we have a lot of friends here, and that keeps us here. I was NOT drawn to Va over DC or Md because of politics or governance.

1) Mid-west
2) Graduated college & job market was bad for my profession in the mid-west area
3) Lots of good and high paying jobs in the DMV, lots of stellar graduate schools in the DMV, amenities of the DMV, beauty of the DMV
4) Better housing with more space in Virginia, better drivers in Virginia (not counting Arlington), better interstate roadways with merges in Virginia, easier to get around in Virginia than Maryland, and when I moved here DC was the homicide capital of the country so it was definitely out as a place of residence

1) CA
2) graduates grad school
3) industry niche jobs
4) short commute + decent public school

Laughing. Definitely +1, and + 2 if you count my husband

1. NYC (born and raised), then DC for 4 years, then NoVa

2. The NYC in which I grew up doesn't exist any more.

3. Always curious. Lawyer, practicing in more of a DC field than an NYC field. No reason not to move, when I did.

4. DC is incredibly inefficient, often unpleasant, and getting even the easiest little thing done is impossible. I had to give up trying to get a DC driver's license; just too many days of investment.

I'm from here and so is my husband. There are a lot of us NoVa natives here, you know!

1. Maryland (close in, well regarded suburb in MoCo)
2. Because my job was in VA and I was tried of a 1 hour commute
3. I was born here.
4. Because the commute was much better. 5 minutes vs. an hour.

4. MD is a nanny state and D.C. is basically a failed junior high social experiment in far-leftist ideology. MoCo isn't far behind.

This. Except, #3 is “born here”

1. Los Angeles

2. While I grew up there, it never felt like it "fit" me, I loved visiting my relatives in the DC area

3. I'd wanted to move for awhile (see above) and an opportunity came up with a client of the firm I was working for in LA.

4. I first lived in MD when I moved here because that's the area I was familiar with because of relatives, then moved into DC because I wanted more of a city feel, met my now-DH who is a native Virginian and owned a home in Arlington so I moved in with him. I don't have a strong opinion about MD vs. VA, they seem pretty similar to me.
