It's pretty sad that you are so narrow and party minded.

I’m a democrat but there is nothing in the world that would make me vote for a Berniecrat.

Yeah sure, focus on your own job when religious bigotry is being codified into law. Worked great for the Germans.

+1 I thought that part of the interview was really disappointing. Hogan wouldn't even allow comments on his public facebook page related to the Muslim ban. The ACLU had to sue him into submission to make him allow people's comments to be heard.

How about his crappy record on education? Sure expand the Beltway, but let's not make that a priority when there are elementary school classes with 30 kids, 1 teacher and no aide. And don't get me started about his micromanaging of school calendars that should be left for local control.

Jealous's views on the Kirwan Commission report, if implemented, would be far, far more damaging that anything Hogan has done re education (and I *hate* the school schedule meddling).

This. I'm a hard-core Democrat, but with kids in MCPS, I can't take the risk of Jealous. So, my vote is going to Hogan. I know Hogan isn't going to make MCPS better, but at least he won't make it worse. Jealous will.

It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. My kids and their education are my number 1 priority.

I am the previous PP, and this is right. We moved to Montgomery County in large part because of the schools.

Unfortunately, this.. and I loathe loathe Trump and was very unhappy about the change in school schedule.

You might ass well not vote if you're going to vote the party line every time without understanding what you're voting for. Let's hope republicans voting in the next presidential election don't feel that way.

In the case of Hogan, we can judge him based on action not talk. IMO, he's been a great governor for the last 4 years. I'm definitely voting for him again.

Hogan quotes:
"One on one, he’s a different person than the persona you see out there. But I don’t like the tweeting. I don’t like the name-calling. The divisiveness really is not good for the country. But he’s not the only one to blame."

"Whether I like what’s going on, the people overwhelmingly elected him as president."

Hogan was asked, In what ways do you think he’s doing the most damage? "I wish he would stop tweeting." Is it adult behavior? Hogan: "That’s a tough one."

On the administration's proposed Muslim ban: "It really wasn’t impacting our state. There wasn’t a single person at B.W.I. Airport who was detained...My job as governor isn’t to go out and lead protest marches." "I guess that at the time, it didn’t rise to the point where it was something I thought I should weigh in on."

Lots and lots more. Please reserve some time (this weekend) to really read the piece. Too important to skim, IMO. Thx

Sorry, OP, but there's nothing to see here. Try as you (and others) may, the attempts to affiliate Governor Hogan with the President are failing, and Marylanders won't fall for it.

Here's the best part of the article IMO:

I was hoping you were coming down to talk about me and, “Aren’t you the future of the Republican Party, and aren’t you the opposite of what’s happening in Washington, and are you going to save the Republican Party?”

Instead it’s Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. I went from two years of talking about just the things I did in my job, the things that people care about in this state. The media would ask me questions, and I’m very open with the media, but nothing outside the state ever came up. As soon as Trump started to look like he was gaining traction in the campaign, every single question every single day from very single reporter was: “What about Trump?” All of a sudden I had to answer questions about some guy from New York who’s running for president, and I’m here in Maryland and I’m not running for president.

I agree with Hogan's estimation. There are about 15% extremists on the far right. There are about 15% extremists on the far left. And about 70% of the nation that are centrist. In MD, I'd say about 50-55% (out of the 70%) of the centrists lean left and identify more with the Democrats or Independents and about 15-20% lean right. I note that the most popular governors in the nation right now are Republicans in deep blue states. To me, this is because the only Republicans who can get elected in blue states are moderate Republicans. It used to be that such Republicans were very mainstream, but now the party has moved so far right (to be fair, the Democratic party has move farther left, too) that these moderates don't really identify with their party any more. They are called RINO's and are attacked from the right for caving to the Democrats. But in point of fact, they are moderate and centrist and what the nation and states want right now.

Hogan is the second most popular governor. He is behind Charlie Baker who is also a Republican in a heavily Democratic state. In fact 3 of the top 4 and 5 of the top 10 most popular governors in the US are Republicans in heavily blue states. I think that the US is slowly getting fed up with the heavily partisan politics. The last two years has pushed extremist behavior over the top. I think we're going to see a wave of cross party candidates (Republicans in blue states and Democrats in red states) winning the elections as the country starts swinging back towards the middle. And I think that Jealous has no chance of winning MD.

You left out some good quotes:

"When I disagree with Trump, I’m going to stand up and let people know. I stand up pretty clearly when I think they’re making a mistake, like on health care, they’re cutting funds for the Chesapeake Bay — a host of issues."

"Our whole thing is working toward compromise and reaching across the aisle. We have a two-thirds majority in both houses that are Democrats, and yet we’ve made a lot of progress. That’s sort of the opposite of what’s going on down there, so they’re not pinning it on me."

"They elected me to do a particular job: to turn around the state of Maryland. They don’t want the governor spending his entire day fooling with Washington."

My Rep can go after the President.

This is like the 6th thread I’ve opened that purported to have very compelling anti-Hogan content that fell flat.

Hogan is the ONLY Republican I will be voting for in the foreseeable future. And all these threads trying to talk me out of it only keep proving the point.

I should expand: (i) I am a democrat, and (ii) I am specifically referring to the crippling cut in state funding for Montgomery County education.
