When DD was in 6th grade, I didn't even know where her locker was until back to school night, and then she showed me how she had to wait for a friend to walk by so she could ask them to reach it for her because she's short.

I sent an email to the principal that night asking that he take pity on my vertically challenged child and get her a locker she could reach so I didn't have to send her to school lugging around a step stool. Certainly never TOUCHED her locker. When at Target I asked if she wanted a locker mirror. That's it.

However, if "decorating" means organizing the locker so that the 1st grader can find her coat, mittens, lunch, etc w/o just throwing it all in there....yeah, I can see why a parent might help a 1st grader with that.

Nope this was all entirely decorative-sports and glittery girly wrapping paper taped to the inside of the doors and back, neon LED strip lights along he top, sparkly or fuzzy shelving and even a little tiny pink shag rug for the bottom. Ridiculous! Thank g@d I have a son who doesn’t care about any of this.

Not necessarily - Murch used to have lockers pre-renovation. No parent decorated them though. However, I will say that the locker accessories are much more commonly available and right by the school supplies in Target. My kids even wanted some.

I helped DS set up his MS locker because he had missed orientation and really couldn't carry all of his notebooks, textbooks, lunch, gym clothes and shelving around all day and then set his locker up between breaks in classes.

He got his locker assignment on the first day of school. I arranged with him to meet him after school and I brought his notebooks, shelving, etc. We set up his locker neatly and that was that. He was good to go.

Our school has lockers but I have never seen this.

It just seems unnecessary and more like one upping and competitiveness from the moms.
