I have never made a livable wage in marketing. I do not think I or my kids could have made it without my DH's earning.

HHI ~120k

Savings: ~2500

Retirement: ~60k

Equity:~150k

Massive student loans, expensive child care, and we both cashed out some retirement for house down payment.

Honestly I’m banking on inheritance, which sucks. I’m the sole beneficiary for several relatives.

We're a little behind at 2.6MM, but will probably be ok if we keep saving (late 30s).

If you are not putting up to your company match in your 401k you are leaving free money on the table and reducing your overall compensation package compared to your coworkers.

Him: no retirements savings, maybe 4K in savings account

Me: 20k in 401K and maybe 2k in savings.

We are both 30.

It gives me a lot of anxiety.

Contrary to what you usually see on DCUM don't worry. Try and save 500 a month if you do that you will be fine in retirement you will have around 45k a year available. If you save 1000 a month starting at 40 and 1500 a month at 50 you will be even better and if you can do that even earlier even better but don't worry.

The key is to save at least 500 a month between the 2 of you starting now

Single mom, $50,000 a year, don't get or pay child support. About $50,000 in cash savings and $50,000 in retirement (not nearly enough, but it is what it is).

Mkay... DH is 37, I’m 34. Both have PhDs. HHI ~ 170.

Him: 50K in retirement. Me: 30K in retirement.
~30k in cash savings. We also own a home and have around 40k in equity in that. Also own our cheap car, 6k retail if we sold it ourselves.

That's sweet. I assume these are rental properties? Are they all paid off?

No, they're stock index funds, both in retirement accounts and out.

We got lucky because right when we got married, we sold two houses in the DC area and moved to a lower-COL area, selling near the peak of the housing run-up.

$210k HHI, went up over the last few years from $150k.
Two kids in childcare.
We have $100k in savings, $450k in retirement, and $50k in college savings. Recently bought our dream house so done savings for DP.
I think we're doing ok b/c we had saved so much before but right now, with daycare, we're not saving much at the end of each month.

I think I have around 30k in my retirement account- I am 34 yrs old and just got a salary increase to 75k, which is the most I've ever made. I honestly just set my annual contribution and don't like to check it often to see the dips and rises with the market. DH, 30 yrs old, started way after me (he is an immigrant and just moved here 4 yrs ago) and has like 2-3k I think. No other savings. We need to build up our emergency savings.

I started putting 10% of my income in a 401 K as of my very first paycheck. I've never stopped. Its really starting to add up now.
