PP, can you say more about why your child didn't enjoy Calleva? We were thinking about it for this summer but I am worried about the heat, too. Were there other problems as well? Thanks!
Not the same poster but we felt the same. My 5th/6th grade son had really enjoyed the kayaking experience at Valley Mill in previous years but didn't want all the other activities so we signed him up for a kayaking week with Calleva. It was pretty hard core in terms of carrying your boat back and forth from the water (these boats are not light weight). So he was bruised and sore - he's not a big kid and ultimately he just didn't enjoy it. I think you need to be really robust for that place, physically.
