I am not afraid to dress for my age. As I get older, I don't mind spending more for quality, comfort and style.

My phases of; finding myself, finding a man, having babies are over. It's ridiculous to dress like one. I do not need to advertise like a flower to a bee.

I pop into Talbots when they are having a sale and usually find a few items that are basics-good white and black T shirts, etc. I'm petite and they have a large petite line. I actually love their jeans- they fit me really well and they look fashionable- I don't wear their preppy stuff but thinks it's nice for others.

I hate Talbots style, but love their quality. I have few pieces that lasts forever. They are similar to Brooks Brothers in the quality. Normally, I dress up more liberal and prefer a lot of brands from Denmark, however, I find accasional pieces in Talbots that i like.

They're fine. Currently, Talbots has a lot of styles that could easily have come from an Ann Taylor or J. Crew.

The frump store is Christopher & Banks.

I look at Talbots every now and again to see if there's something there I might like and the answer is always no. That boring fed govt worker bee look is not my style. My workplace is creative so I don't have to walk around in pencil skirts/sheath dresses/slacks and blazers and a low but serviceable heel.

And Chico's is absolutely not my style.

YES!! So much this. I always have high hopes for the fashion forum -- I'd love to see people talk about creative ways they pull together outfits and wear their clothes. But you have to get through the morass of (a) people with weird attachments to rules (what's in, what's out, what's a "good" brand and what isn't) and relatedly, (b) all the nonsense body shaming (or self-shaming) stuff.

Don't forget the "you must wear pantyhose" and "how do I look rich/classy?" people.

I think of Talbots and Chicos as frumpy clothes my MIL would wear. I wouldn't be caught dead in them either!

Not PP but that's not what the poster is saying. There was no mention of 'classic' or slave to trends. You do what works for you. If Talbot is not to your liking, move on.

The people who say they’ll never wear X brand or make a sweeping statement that X brand is terrible have no real style. I can find an item I like and style it to work for me at almost any store. Sure everything from every store won’t work for me but if you insist you can’t make items work for you simply because they’re from X store you just have no style or creativity.

Talbots may not be trendy, but it has something for everyone season after season.
