OP, get marble if you want it. Just know that it shows wear. People advise against it because it requires maintenance and does not stay perfect and new looking, but if that doesn't bother you, then get it.

Granite is not at all out of style.

You only have to reseal certain granites, not all of them. You can ask about whether a granite needs to be resealed when you are choosing. We chose one that did not need to be resealed and it looks beautiful after about ten years of use.
