Friends of mine got in a huge screaming match (no violence) and neighbors called the cops. Both of them were arrested and spent the night in jail. Neither was guilty of anything except yelling, but this is standard procedure in DC.
I don't care enough about it to double check the veracity of this, but I've been told by an attorney that any time the police are called for a domestic situation in DC they are required to make an arrest, even if it is the neighbors or other non-eyewitnesses making the call.
I don't know if he was eventually arrested or not, but a guy I personally witnessed trying to break up a fight on the metro was then accused of starting it by one of the real culprits and it looked like the police planned to arrest both of them.
On the other hand, you could be dating a violent guy with a temper. Use your best judgment.

If charges are filed they will show on a record, even if hey do not result in a conviction. If you are arrested but no charges are filed that will not show up anywhere.

This is a good point, where did you see/find out he was arrested? Only convictions go on your record in most states.

I’m a woman and I’ve been in a bar fight or two in college. Just never been caught or charged. I dare say there are plenty of us out there who grew up to be fine upstanding citizens after our wilder days.
+1 A couple of friends from high school committed several felonies, and both went on to be very successful. One is quite involved in philanthropy and the other volunteers for a big brother type organization. I sometimes wonder how their lives would have been different if they were caught.

Never been in a bar fight. Managed to have fun w/o it. Also, I’m an AA woman and figure a judge wouldn’t buy my argument that I was going to turn out to be a fine upstanding citizen anyway.

Arrest but no conviction could well indicate a false accusation. It happens.
Or a diversionary program for first time offenders with a minimal offense.
