RAs are back for training as are athletes. One way to determine roach activity is to go to dorm kitchen at night and look inside stove and stove top - they love the warmth.

This is disgusting and shows lack of care and responsibility on the part of the college. I would ask for reassignment. You are probably paying $$$ for room and board. Get your money's worth. And yes roaches are far worse at night so this is only the tip of the nightmare. Also I wouldn't want my kid around the pesticides. I think you have every right to ask for a room change.

He’s saying he hasn’t seen any roaches at all for 3 nights now. I told him to keep an eye out.

Ok so your son wants to tough it. At least for now. After the first treatment, how long would it be before signs of the infestation is back? I’d be on the lookout for them to come back and if they do, I would help your son advocate for alternate housing.

I'm sorry this is happening, OP. I just dropped mine off last weekend and I'd be so upset if there was a roach infestation in his dorm.
I'm assuming you dropped him off over the weekend which means he's at least spent one night. Have you talked to him? What's he saying about it?

Ugh. Boric acid and glue traps for the room. Make sure anything your child brings home is put in a tightly closed plastic bag.

They said they exterminated over the summer but that due to all the rain, the roaches were a unique situation. I dunno, I’m having trouble believing that?
I’m really ticked off that the kids walked into this. Knowing kids were moving in, any staff member who just walked in to check on things before these kids arrived would have seen it. Means literally no one bothered to even look in the building before move-in.
And this is a tiny college. There’s only a small number of dorms total. It just feels very careless.
I'm sorry. I would have a hard time with this because it does seem careless.

It’s possible he’s already moved in even if he goes to one of those schools- I know two kids at Washington and Lee who moved in already due to athletics...
W&L housing is pretty much new or freshly renovated. Unlikely.
