I got into an argument over a toll charge with Express Lanes when I got a new car and hadn’t mounted it. They told me it’s part of the user agreement to have the EZ Pass “properly mounted on your windshield” or else you’re liable for any false charges. They accompanied their email to me with pictures of me driving through toll points obviously holding up my pass. I bought Velcro strips that day. I drive express lanes every day.

Dash has always worked fine for me.

In the eyeglasses holder, and in the other comment putting it in the glove box -- in both cases the EZpass is behind metal, which blocks a direct radio signal. The signal can get to it from other sides and it is not as strong. Yes it can work but I want to reduce the risk of getting a paper notice to pay several times as much, so I put it where they say at the top of the windshield.

Yes, I have 2 - one for work travel and other personal. I have to keep the one I’m not using in a case they sent it in so I’m not charged 2 times.

It works using radio. The closer the endpoints of a radio link the better it works. At the top of the windshield is closer to the overhead radio equipment than on the dashboard. It may work on the dash, I see others do it, but in marginal situations, it will not work as well.

Dashborad works fine. I have never mounted our EZPass, so we can easily take it between cars and even rental cars. I just throw it on the dashboard and it has always worked.

One thing to remember -- have it on there _before_ you approach a toll station. For the ones with gates (note the overhead ones like on the ICC or 495 Express Lanes), the sensor is actually 100ft+ before the turnstile, so it can sense it and it gives it enough time to flip up the turnstile by the time you actually arrive to it... so be sure to have your ezpass on the dash well in advance.

We got them right away

We had a problem with the velcro - the adhesive seemed to melt in warm weather, and then the EZ Pass would fall.

We finally ordered the transponders that go on the front license plate. Cost maybe $10-15.
