If your DD is only in 8th grade, this seems like a lot of wheel-spinning for nothing. Your child will change considerably over the next few years. Wait until at least 10th grade.

I assume its because Evergreen, along with Warren Wilson (and to a lesser extent, Northland), is one of the most militant hippie environmentalist colleges in the country. Like, hardcore hippie. Lots of good suggestions here. I'd also throw in Sewanee. It actually sits on a 13,000 acre nature preserve on top of "the mountain" and has a very active outing club.

Bowdoin...it’s likr Middlebury with an ocean. And they have that oceanographic studies campus.

Check out Pitzer and Pomona. They have excellent environmental analysis programs and SoCal has a very diverse geography (forests, oceans, deserts, mountains, islands, etc. all within reach). The outdoors club is very active and has a ton of budgeting for trips in the area. There's a nearby botanical garden and a huge eco-reserve/field station that the students go to for ecological studies. Pomona requires every student to go on a wilderness trip- it's part of their orientation adventures program.

Most LACs tend to be in picturesque, natural areas. I also recommend Bowdoin in coastal Maine- great environmental analysis program and an ocean research station.
