I think it's pretty awesome when a child can beat their dad at something and a dad can struggle gracefully in front of the kid. So you fall in the whole time, that is awesome.

DH and DS took a weekend sailing course together in Annapolis and liked it so much they ended up getting a sailboat.

Volunteering for trail maintenance with a local outdoors group would be a good way to spend time together and get in some SSL hours. It's not just trash pickup, but things like removing fallen trees, freshening up trail blazes, etc.

Minus working on cars, this sums up what my ds and his dad do together. I wanted to put in a plug for the golunteering - ds needed to increase his service learning hours and his best time to do it was over the weekends, which is when he is with his dad the most. They started spending one morning per weekend volunteering at an organization like NCCF or Wide Circle dealing with loading/unloading of donations, moving and putting together the furniture donations, furniture, etc and they really bonded over it and it was a great start to their weekend.
