My daughter wrote thank you notes and baked cookies and brownies and gave those to her teachers and counselors who wrote her recommendations.

Wow. I've written dozens of recs each year, and never received (or wanted!) gifts/payment. It's part of the job, and a sincere thank you is a enough.

Me too! I’ll have to remember this for when DS starts applying and asking for recommendation letters.

I wrote tons and never wanted more than a sincere verbal thank you from the student. It was also nice if and when they stopped by a couple months lafer to report they had been accepted. That said written thank you notes were nice too.

My English teacher wrote me a college recommendation and after I got in, I got her a couple books written by alumni. She really liked that.


That is another great idea!

Why? You don't think each teacher put in AT LEAST an hour's work on it? I do. They're underpaid anyway and this is not part of their job. $50 was the least we could / would do.
