I don't believe in ghosts in the traditional pop culture sense of the word, but I do believe in the spiritual world and the presence of evil spirits and good spirits. I've been in places where strange things have happened that really scared the crap out of people living there.

If you don't believe in God, you're probably screwed. But if you do, take solace in the fact that God is greater than any spirits in the world. Call on his authority to make the spirits go away.

This is essentially what a priest or pastor would do.

I've lived in 2 places in Washington, DC that were haunted. One was an apartment in Glover Park, and the other was a house on Jenifer Street NW. I would have thought myself crazy except that my roommates corroborated my sightings with sightings of their own. The ghosts never made noise, but they made their presences known.

In both cases, we had the luxury of moving out due to expiring leases. OP, I'm guessing you might not be in the position to move out immediately. I found this site for the Society for Paranormal Investigation (they've got a local branch, who knew?). Maybe it's worth a try?

I feel for the OP. Our house was "haunted" growing up. No doubt about it. Our dog's head would rise, and he would follow something across the room then out the door. We saw nothing. But we heard things, and would walk through a cold patch out of the blue. Lots of other stuff.

All started when my dad started doing major renovations. Nothing bad every happened to anyone, but all of our friends knew my house was haunted.

Can you please share some of the memories you traded with them? Do you lied with this for over a decade? My goodness. You must have an interesting perspective on the afterlife, spirituality, etc. I always wonder if there even IS life after death....

Actually, this is a very good point. We just caught a moue and he was causing such a racket that I thought my cat had gotten in the wall of something. Set some traps and see if you catch anything. Once we did we stopped hearing the noises.

I'm going to bet the noises are the sounds of your house. Very few houses are quiet.

I thought I remembered seeind something in my closing papers when I bought my house in 2002 about deaths on the premises (none).

I am not sure I believe in ghosts but OP, I think you've gotten good advice here: Priests, paranormal departments, and moving.

If it were just adults in the house I'd let it go but for a small child, I'd be more proactive. Believe in it or not, why take any chances.....

You know, I recollect from Property Law (many, many years ago in law school) that there IS an obligation on a seller to disclose if a house was the sight of a gristly murder or known to the public to be haunted, because (true or not) it effects the value of the property? This isn't my area of law at all, so, of course, this could have changed.
