Same here! My DD is a great reader but horrible writing. We just ended 3 weeks of Tomatis Therapy at kidsLanguage Arts and it’s the best thing ever!! She now comes home and grabs paper pencil and want to write and the improvement is very apparent. They are also working on her ADD and her concentration is already better.

OP here, we did 1 and 2 for Tomatis and will be doing the third soon. It helped him a lot. But not writing. How did your Tomatis improved writing? Ours is in Fairfax.

Your results really depend on the therapist and the kind of Tomatis they offer, but the therapist at KLA is really good and they work with her while she is in therapy. They also wrote her therapy based on her test results but hers is based on dyslexia and graphic language.I do like them because it comes from the Atlantis institute and ther are the core of it. My daughter really likes going and the most of all the exercises they do with her are very effective. I’m more than thrilled to see her progress so fast.

I just posted it for my ADHD kid who also has had handwriting issues. There are a couple of places that I know of but we go to kidslanguageart in Mclean. they do all therapy and testing there. You'd have to come every day for a couple weeks and even thought the cost per each session is the same, the number of session your child needs may vary, depending on the severity of condition. The cost comes to $150/h, unfortunately not covered by insurance. we did a new kid back though. good luck!

This is the same experience we've been having in MCPS. We began flagging the issue in 2nd grade in our first IEP and again for all of 3rd. The school system seems to jump right to bypass strategies (voice to text, typing) rather than handwriting, even when our educational consultant documented the need for more handwriting practice. The response we have gotten is that handwriting is not actually in the curriculum so as long as our daughter is meeting other academic standards it doesn't really matter that she is not writing. It seems so crazy to me.

We have reached the stage where we will be looking for a private OT as well for handwriting. Are there any recommendations for Silver Spring or Rockville providers? Most of what has been shared so far is Virginia.
