I'm not a PP but I used to lived in a townhouse across the street from Northwest behind the Clopper Mill Village Shopping Center when my oldest was a toddler. We made sure to get out before he entered school. We live in Rockville now so we aren't super rich like Bethesda or Potomac families. We are very happy with our elementary that feeds into RM and the tons of amenities we have here. You must live up in Boyds because where we lived was pretty bad. The parks were nice and our townhouse was very pretty and it was an extremely diverse area but there was definitely a higher than average amount of crime. We had to call the police multiple times after we heard yelling and teenagers sneaking around in the alley behind our house. Houses on OUR block had been broken into during our time there as well. Maybe near Woodcliffe area it isn't as bad but that isn't a huge area itself. We moved after we heard GUNFIRE for the second time... yes it was really a shooting. I'm still shocked some people still think Germantown is a great area. We even lived on the nice side! Our previous experiences there continue to make DH and I stay way clear of Germantown. The shopping center always had empty storefronts and the Shoppers is not very nice.

Sorry, the area by the Shoppers shopping center isn't the nice side. --used to live in Germantown, now live in Clarksburg

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Germantown is so far from any W schools! and a house for 400k might as well be free which you know is a bad sign! Oh and there’s so much crime (let’s just ignore all the crime in Bethesda)
Major eye roll.
^^ The best school even near Germantown is Clarksburg and that's a different town! The cheaper the houses are the crazier the people are who live in the neighborhood. As for Seneca Valley and Northwest, I'd say Northwest is a tad better. But Sherwood is still the best upcounty non-magnet. Then Clarksburg and then Northwest.

That's more northeast. If you need to go upcounty go with central county schools like Wootton, Quince Orchard, Richard Montgomery, or even Rockville. All are better than Germantown schools. Just stay away from Watkins Mill and Gaithersburg.Anonymous wrote:Germantown is so far from any W schools! and a house for 400k might as well be free which you know is a bad sign! OP I don't really know what goes on up there but I think either way the schools are all gonna be on the same level. Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Wonder how this will impact housing in the area.
I doubt Germantown could get any cheaper.
Oh, good grief.
Seriously. Median sales price in Germantown is $300K, which is still well above the average for the US. Stop being an elitist jerk.
