I don't understand why this is considered such a deterrent on DCUM. I have an unpronounceable last name and I've always loved it. It's never been a big deal to simply teach people how to say it nor have I ever been offended by people who can't get it right. It always made me feel special and unique.

I guess maybe it's different if it's a first name and kids make fun of you, but I can't help and feel that people who were so bothered about having a difficult name in childhood simply are bothered about every little perceived adversity in life.

Your son has a great French name (I love Hugo), and both kids probably have your DH’s last name. Seems like it’s time to reflect your heritage. Simona is a beautiful choice.

I have an unusual, but straightforward name. It has been mangled in more ways than you might think possible and has caused a lot of confusion over the years.

If you really like the name Simona, go ahead and use it. However, don't get upset when people don't know how to process it. In my experience, people with unusual names adapt quickly, automatically clarifying their names and expecting people to get it wrong. More commonly, it's the parents who tend to get upset when it's accidentally misused.

I like both, would pick based on middle name and last name flow.

I would go with Simona because of my Italian heritage - Simone is a boy’s name in Italian.
