Claremont is generally considered more conservative than comparable small liberal arts colleges, I think in part because of the conservative Claremont Institute, though it is not officially affiliated with the University. Both are excellent schools that are likely to offer the most bang for the buck on their respective coasts -- as others have said W & L is very Southern and Greek with a very strong alumni network.

Because in 2018, seeking a school that is as undiverse (white) as W&L sends a signal. Not a great one. My white kid would never consider it even if it were ranked number 1 by USNews.

Unlike your own virtue signalling in your post? I suspect most white kids and white parents aren't going to agonize over whether a school is only X% minority versus Y% minority.

DP. Maybe not, but given where things are in the country and our increased awareness of such matters, having the name Lee there isn’t a plus.

Shrugs. Likewise I don't think most care either. W&L is doing just fine and dandy. And I say this as someone with absolutely no affiliation with W&L and went to one of the most liberal colleges in the US.

There is a report from the Center of Education and the Workforce that rates schools based on their value add in earnings. It essentially compares expected earnings to actual. Expected earnings are based on selectivity and mix of majors (some majors like engineering make significantly more, at least shorter term). W&L ranks #4 nationwide and easily first in Virginia.

^^I mean, I can google accredited vs. not, but I thought that a degree from a non-accredited school wouldn't land you many jobs and certainly not a high-paying one. According to Google.
