They are older but I enjoyed Phyllis Richmond's mysteries. She wrote three shortly after she retired as the food critic for the Washington Post. 'The Butter Did it", Murder on the Gravy Train' and 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Ham'. Her character was essentially herself.

This book was eerily like my life - down to the jobs the protagonists had and place they lived.

OP here, read "From the Corner of The Oval" by Beck Dorey-Stein and really liked it! Thought I'd share.

Curtis Sittenfeld is from Ohio but was the writer in residence at St. Albans for a while. Prep is set in Massachusetts.

Can anyone help me remember a DC chick lit book that came out around 15 years ago? It was about a young woman in DC who owned a secondhand clothing shop and had a big Catholic family. Was popular/well-read enough to be made into a Lifetime or Hallmark movie IIRC. Anyone?

DCUM should band together and write/publish DC chick lit under a pseudonym. They could even be based off of classic DCUM threads. I can totally picture the lightly fried tuna thread as an opening chapter.

If you haven’t picked up Campaign Widows yet, I HIGHLY recommend. Covers every facet of the city!

I've read 2 or 3 of them. They are mostly pretty light and fluffy, though there's a rape scene in one that comes out of the blue and is written really badly. That turned me off her books so I haven't read more but other than that they were easy beach reads.

Ellen Byerrum has a semi-cozy mystery series set in DC - under the overall grouping of Crimes of Fashion. These seem to be self published? Or I can't quite figure it out The DC library doesn't have many of them.

The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close was partially set in DC. It was good, centered around political ambitions and running for office.

Kathleen Gilles Seidel wrote A Most Common Degree of Popularity, set in the private school world of DC and upper NW.

I also seek out DC-based books - not as easy to find, and especially not easy to find chick lit or lighter things that aren't thrillers or all about politics.

Stupid autocorrect changed the first author - it's Beth HARBISON. Meant to also say the DC library seems to have a lot of her books.
