It's a bit of a drive for us but in high school that's not a big deal because the practices are not as frequent (or on weekends). She said the girls are a lot more welcoming and fun than the ones on many of the immediate DC area clubs and they also have a full time recruiting director on staff, which is a nice bonus. Having played against them in the past, we have always had a favorable impression of the overall club but wanted to see if anyone had experience there.

We are not worried about the commute because we have no other children and both of us have very flexible jobs. Getting to Alexandria from Rockville is terrible too, we have done it for years and don't see it as a better option.
In terms of winter workouts, those are 100% optional and my daughter's school has winter lacrosse and training so she wouldn't need that. There might be weekend practice in March but never during the week - how could they with the busy high school season?
I know a coup,e of girls on the team. They love it. But not sure you are correct about practices. And as you probably know, there is no such thing as optional practice at this level. You need to attend.
