OP here - that could be true lol! I do have a Miele though so maybe that gives me some street cred.

I have an inherited Rainbow and as much as I hate that thing and generally always use my cordless Dyson for kids messes, I have to admit it does a much better job.

Yes. We have hardwood throughout, so it’s a stick vac on 2/3 floors and a Miele in the basement that has carpet. It’s a time saver for me, and dramatically increases the amount of vacuuming that gets done.

It's also crazy wasteful. Your grandmother thinks you're a spendthrift.

I keep a portable on each floor and a regular on the main floor, if I didn't I would be swimming in dog and teen hair.

I have 3 floors and one vacuum - a central vacuum with hide a hose. Since the hose is stored in the walls, I just keep a set of tools on each floor in a closet so there's nothing to carry up or down the stairs. Is it necessary? Absolutely not; but it does make us more inclined to do a quick vacuuming when needed rather than put it off because the attachments are on a different floor. We also have a vacpan in our kitchen that I can push all the crumbs from around the island and table into with a Swiffer.

3 floors. 1 vacuum and 1 stick vacuum for the kitchen crumbs. If you have a vacuum on each floor, how you vacuum the stairs, which vac wins?

I dont vacuum my own house and so far the housecleaners and housekeeper hasn't requested more than 1. Plus our house is just at 3k sq feet. Not hard to vaccuum.

We have a vacuum on each floor, but not intentionally (we realized after we bought the second vacuum that the first could actually be easily fixed, so we kept it for the basement), and then we were given a Roomba for Christmas.

We have a nice dyson on the main level and a small hand vac upstairs. The dyson is the work horse that we use on all floors for regular vacuuming but the hand vac is great for small stuff. We have cats and I can't stand cat hair everywhere so that was the primary impetus for getting the 2nd vacuum, but it's nice beyond that.

Just got a Sharp Rotator (cordless little vac) because I was sit of lugging our big vacuum around -- and now I always "lug" (it weighs 7 lbs) the Sharp around, because it works just fine and I freaking HATE cords.

Love love love my Sharp!

3 floors, one regular vac on the main floor, and one stick vac that also lives on the main floor, but it's light and easy to carry up or down. plus cleaning service, so i don't really carry either up or down too much.

A year ago i thought this was crazy. We moved last year into a house with tile floors, and have to keep our main vacuum tucked into a closet where it's somewhat a pain to get it out. So i bought the cheap stick vacuums, one for under our dining table where 6 year old makes a mess, and one for our master bathroom where my hair is ridiculous. And then (!) i bought another vacuum just to vacuum our new velvet sectional sofa, because it gets linty every few days and i didn't want to haul out the big vacuum. I officially turned crazy! Four vacuums!
