No, I would not send my gay child to Catholic school, or any place other than a very progressive and accepting religious school.

I am a Catholic school graduate and the idea that Catholic high schools are telling gay kids that they’re going to hell, let alone every day, is silly and couldn’t be more inaccurate.

This. Even in the ‘80s, my all girls college prep Catholic HS had girls and nuns that it was clear were lesbians. One of my classmates worked at a lesbian bookstore and has a crew cut. She loved our school and is still a big alumni donor.

I'm Catholic. My kids went to Catholic schools from pre-k through 8th grade (we moved out of state). I loved their Catholic school. It was very inclusive. I never heard anything even close to the PP's statement that gay kids go to hell. That's just ridiculous.

That said, my youngest (DH 17) is gay. I would not send him to a Catholic school. No matter how hard the school tries to teach tolerance, the Catholic Church has a lot of work to do before it could be considered LGTBQ friendly.

I went to Catholic school. I sent my daughter to one through grade 3 until we moved. (She's entering 9th.) There is no way I would send my gay child to a Catholic school.

Yes, I get that some schools are more welcoming, but in the "books," gay is not OK. Why risk it?

I would expect a good deal of tolerance from a Catholic school (unless it was sponsored by a very conservative group like Opus Dei) but with the understanding that the doctrine being taught may not align. I have found my Catholic community to be very supportive of people (“love the sinner” if you will) but they will not condone homosexual behavior as a natural human response.

Given that there are more than a few gay Catholic priests, they're not telling kids who identify as gay that they're going to hell.
